A Great Big Pile of Leaves Shows Coming Up!

We actually missed this, but A Great Big Pile of Leaves played a show in Manchester (I think) last weekend. This weekend though they are going to be in Brooklyn at a not-so-secret house party to kickoff a new diy venue me and a couple friends put together. It's mainly a friends and friends of friends of friends event, but if for some reason you're around just rsvp.

For those not in Brooklyn, A Great Big Pile of Leaves will be in at The Space in Hamden, Conn. next Wednesday, April 29th. And then back in NYC at the Lit Lounge at the end of May. As we've said before, check out their MySpace if you want to download the two EPs they released last year (for free!).

We Were There: A Great Big Pile of Leaves

Saturday night was A Great Big Pile of Leaves' first show ever...even after releasing two successful EPs in the past 15 months. Pete, Tyler and Tucker put on an amazing first set and drew a big crowd to ArtSpace in New Haven (which proved to be a solid venue that we are looking forward to future shows.) Melissa will add more later about her thoughts on the night.

The show was relatively good. Some thoughts:
+ Acoustics were done right
+ Opening band was crazy/ attracted crazy people to dance
+ Alcohol was cheap, plus they had free snacks
+ Crowd was relatively tame and genuinely interested in bands

- Lack of foresight in beer supply (+ luckily, we got the last 3)

A Great Big Pile of Leaves Drop New, Free EP at Midnight

We mentioned this previously, but we figured it wouldn't hurt to remind you. A Great Big Pile of Leaves just released (an hour an a half ago) their latest EP and part two of The Fiery Works. You can download the five-song EP directly here, or from their MySpace and Web site.

There's really not much else to say other than to check it out. I haven't gotten a chance to listen to it as I plan on passing out asap, but I'm sure one of us we'll have a glowing review in the near future.

A Great Big Pile of Free: Part II

The Brooklyn/New Haven-based duo A Great Big Pile of Leaves will be releasing part two of their free album, aptly titled The Fiery Works II, on Tuesday.

If you want a sneak peak (3 out of the 5 songs) of the album all you have to do is check out their MySpace. The last two songs will be released on Tuesday and will be available for download, again, on their MySpace.

Their critically-acclaimed first EP and part one of the complete album can still be downloaded on (surprise!) their MySpace or directly here.

A Great Big Pile of Free

Going along with Melissa's Black Kids post a couple down, I have another free EP for you. This one was also reviewed in this week's Recorder.

A Great Big Pile of Leaves' debut EP comes from a New York-Connecticut duo that brings on a mix of influences, all of them pretty fun. You can download their EP from the top of their MySpace page or just listen to a few samples there if you're feeling you aren't quite ready for commitment. I understand, it can be a rough world out there. You don't want to be giving yourself up to just any album download.

Make him take you on a few dates first and see how you feel then. If you don't like him, you don't need to call him back. Trust me, he's used to it.
