Tina Fey's Return

As I said before, Tina Fey returned to SNL yesterday to take on the role of Sarah Palin. And it does not disappoint. This time around, however, Amy Poehler joins her as Katie Couric as the two mock their recent interview.



SNL did a few other political skits, but they pretty much miss the mark. Their spoof on the Obama/McCain debate was just about as boring and useless as the real thing. Their Bill Clinton skit, which makes light of Clinton's recent piss-poor endorsements for Obama, is not as bad. There is actually one really great/wow moment midway through. Both are below.

Letterman vs. McCain, Day 2. Debates On Tonight!

I hate to get keep talking politics (I know, it's not sexy) on an entertainment blog, but you have to admit it's relevant and occasionally hilarious. As you should know by now, McCain left Letterman at the alter a couple nights ago in order to tend to the current economic crisis we're in. Of course, after he canceled on Letterman he had an on-air interview probably a few studios over with Katie Couric for CBS's Evening News.

He also didn't leave for New York until the following day. Needles to say, Letterman wasn't happy that evening and actually grabbed the news feed while mocking McCain. CBS News Execs apparently we're not thrilled by the move. Letterman was at it again last night anyways (clip below).



In more serious news, the debate between Obama and McCain is on for tonight. It will air at 9 p.m. on, I believe, CNN but I would be pretty shocked if the major networks didn't pick it up too (unless CNN has an exclusive deal for it). The Huffington Post will have a live stream of it too.

An Even Better Palin Skit

This is a tad old, but honestly I just watched it again for the tenth time or so and I was still laughing. As you can tell by the skit, this came out around the time McCain announced Palin as his VP candidate. Whoever this woman is is even better than Fey. Consider that a huge endorsement from me considering the crush I have on Fey.

Don't Forget Fey is Back on SNL this Week

Tina Fey doing Sarah Palin was quite the hit two weeks ago. It seems she will be reprising the role this week on SNL. I'll be the first to admit that SNL has become somewhat irrelevant these days, but they always seem to put out great material during election years and this is no different.

In case you missed it this weekend, Fey came out of the Emmys with quite the haul for 30 Rock (Comedy Series, Lead Actress In A Comedy Series, Writing For A Comedy Series), which will premiere this season on October 30th. Also in case you missed it, the original Palin skit as well as the recent McCain skit.

New Nas Mixtape Out Now

You should know by now how much we love mixtapes and Obama. So it's no surprise that we're here talking about Nas' latest and the prelude to his controversially titled album, which is due out July 15.

The mixtape, which technically dropped yesterday, with DJ Green Lantern (who does most of the producing) features a couple tracks that will be on the full-length. A highlight though is the track "Black President," which is sort of a hesitant tribute to Obama as it echos Tupac's lines from the song "Changes" ("Although it seems heaven sent / We ain't ready to see a black President"). While Obama's "Yes We Can" ala will.i.am fights the skepticism. All-around good track and just in time for the nomination.

More Obama Inspired Music

Granted, I did not follow the 04 election nearly as closely as I'm following this one, but I don't think anyone was running out to the recording studio for John Kerry. There's plenty of Bush inspired music though - "Bin Laden" by Immortal Technique for some reason comes to mind first - but even then it wasn't made specifically for the election.

The video below is a rap by Big Hit Buda supporting Obama. The rhymes aren't particularly good or anything, but it is still interesting and/or amusing to listen to. I didn't want to get too political here, but if the candidate-inspired music keeps coming, I don't see any reason not to post it. I'm waiting for some Celine Dion duet about Clinton and maybe McCain can hire Carrie Underwood, or some no name equivalent to Big Hit Buda.



In case you've missed it. People have previously been inspired by Obama and in a way McCain.

John McCain...Inspires?

In vain of last week's post featuring will.i.am, another group of slightly less famous people took it upon themselves to put a very uplifting speech by John McCain to music. Just like the original, this one mixes McCain's speech, the spoken word of other's, as well as some singing and light acoustic guitar.

It's one part amusing, one part sad. Really listening to what McCain says can be frightening.

"Yes We Can" Song by will.i.am, Inspired by Obama

This is actually relevant on a number of levels for us Connecticuters. The following video is a mix of a Barrack Obama speech following the New Hampshire primary and various artists singing the words to that speech.

It's interesting to us because the primaries are coming up here in Connecticut and Obama is actually speaking in Hartford today at the XL Center (formally the Civic Center). I will be there. I feel odd posting this (despite it being music related) and then going to an Obama rally, but this guy is certainly inspiring people, especially young people, to become active in the upcoming election. There are many people much less active than me in the realm of politics taking interest in the primaries and upcoming election - and that is certainly a good thing.

As I said, the video takes his speech and intertwines it with artist's signing Obama's words. To name a few participants: Scarlett Johansson, John Legend, Herbie Hancock, Kate Walsh, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Nick Cannon, Common and obviously will.i.am. I like how this was done, but I wish they created version without Obama overlapping the singing to make it a bit more musical. Johansson looks as gorgeous as ever, and yes that needed to be italicized.
