To me, New York City is a travelable distance, so I like to know about NYC shows should the possibility arise when I can actually see one.
The Epochs:
I stumbled upon this this band out of Brooklyn, N.Y. and they sound better every time I listen to them. They have labeled themselves as pop on their MySpace, but I can't see them definitely fitting into that genre. They'll be playing a show at the Mercury Lounge in NYC this Tuesday, Feb. 12 along with another New York-based band, Senator, for the late show.
Living in the moment of this free stuff, post-In Rainbows era, The Epochs are giving away their Remixes EP, which is available now if you have a computer an internet connection. After only listening to their tracks posted online, it's not hard to get a feel for a new direction the band is heading, yet be pleasantly reminded of something we already know we love.
Their song "Giving Tree" kind of sounds like something off In Rainbows, and in some aspects they are a stripped-down version of Radiohead. I like where they're going with this.
